The Democracy Forum, jointly organized by the BMZ, the GIZ sector project Anti-Corruption and Integrity and the Alliance for Integrity, will take place on 26 June. Under the title “The digitally transformed global economy – an engine for democracy!?“, the question of the responsibility of politics and companies in dealing with autocracy and democracy in international economic cooperation will be discussed.

“Autocracies on the rise worldwide, democracies under pressure” is the relevant tenor of studies and numerous initiatives by business associations in the run-up to the European elections. Against this backdrop in particular, the Democracy Forum aims to provide a framework for representatives from the private sector, politics and civil society to exchange views on these developments and discuss possible solutions. The relevance of the multi-stakeholder approach for promoting democracy through collective cooperation between governments, business, trade unions and civil society will also be discussed. Furthermore, the Democracy Forum will address the question of whether the digitally transformed global economy can be a driver of democracy, highlighting the challenges of international economic cooperation with autocracies and the importance of democracy, the rule of law and anti-corruption.

The core questions of the event are:

  • What is the division of labor between politics and business?
  • How do we strengthen the importance of a multi-stakeholder approach (collective action) of governments, companies, trade unions and civil society for the promotion of democracy?
  • Under what conditions do we work with autocracies?
  • Inclusive, participation-oriented corporate culture – a model for an open civil society?

The Democracy Forum will take place online on June 26, 2024. For further information and to register: Demokratieforum/Democracy Forum – Alliance for Integrity
