The exact damage caused by the earthquake in early February is still unclear. At least 5,900 people died, and thousands of buildings were destroyed or damaged in Syria. Many more schools cannot be used in the near future because they must serve as shelters for survivors.
The MSP Global Partnership for Education is now providing $3.75 million from its funds for Syria. These funds are to be used to provide temporary places of learning for the affected children as quickly as possible. The GPE funds will also be used to repair or rebuild damaged schools. Additionally, GPE will support school meals and psychological help for children toto give them a sense of security and normality. In addition, the schools can act as a safe space where children are protected from exploitation. In total, the GPE plans to mobilize an additional $50 million to Syria over the next three years.
