The Global Coffee Platform (GCP) is reviewing its Coffee Sustainability Reference Code and Equivalence Mechanism in 2026. Through a public consultation process, stakeholders across the coffee value chain are invited to contribute their perspectives and expertise to the future development of both tools.

Over the past years, the Coffee Sustainability Reference Code and the Equivalence Mechanism have become widely recognised tools for establishing a common understanding of sustainable coffee production. As part of its regular review cycle, the Global Coffee Platform is now assessing both instruments to ensure they remain aligned with evolving sector realities, regulatory developments and sustainability challenges.

To launch the public consultation process, the GCP will host two regional online webinars on May 19, 2026, tailored to different time zones. The sessions will present the proposed updates to the Coffee Sustainability Reference Code and the Equivalence Mechanism and provide guidance on how stakeholders can engage in the consultation process and share their feedback.

Alongside the webinars, a 30-day public consultation period will invite stakeholders across the coffee value chain to contribute their expertise and perspectives to the further development of both tools.

Further information on the consultation process and participation opportunities is available directly from GCP.
