Tips and Tricks

In order to ensure the legitimacy of multi-stakeholder partnerships (MSPs), a regular and transparent election process of their central decision-making body is required. This document is primarily aimed at MSP secretariats and provides support for the preparation, implementation and conclusion of election processes for the steering committee as the central decision-making body.

In multi-stakeholder partnerships, actors from the public sector, private sector, civil society and academia plan, coordinate and implement activities in order to realise common goals and sustainable change. One characteristic of institutionalised MSPs is a long-term governance structure. This always includes a central decision-making body that is responsible for the strategic direction of the partnership. The election process is usually supported by the MSP secretariat in its neutral role as administrative and logistical process facilitator.
