The Global Coffee Platform (GCP) is a Multi-Stakeholder Partnership (MSP) committed to advancing a sustainable future for the coffee sector by bringing together actors along the coffee value chain. In this context, GCP is reviewing two of its key tools for promoting sustainable coffee production in 2026: the Coffee Sustainability Reference Code and the Equivalence Mechanism.

The Coffee Sustainability Reference Code was developed as a common language for baseline sustainable coffee production. In a complimentary manner, the Equivalence Mechanism enables comparability of sustainability schemes and mutual understanding across the sector. The objective of the evaluation is to ensure that both tools remain relevant and continue to contribute effectively to sustainable coffee production. The process takes into account new regulatory developments as well as lessons learned from the implementation of both tools. The evaluation is conducted in line with ISEAL Code of Good Practices and supports GCP’s long-term objectives.

The evaluation process is designed to be transparent, inclusive, and evidence-based. It includes a technical analysis of the current application and effectiveness of the tools, as well as engagement with stakeholders across the coffee value chain. Relevant information and updates will be shared throughout the process.

Those interested are invited to contribute to the evaluation by completing a five-minute online survey to help assess the relevance and coherence of the GCP tools. The deadline for participation is February 13. Results will be shared anonymously and in summary form and feedback will directly inform the review.
