Key topics include the mobilisation of private capital, sustainable business models, energy sovereignty and strengthening economic and societal resilience. The work programme reaffirms the important role of the economy in addressing ecological and societal challenges. At the same time, sustainability is explicitly not understood as a cost-minimising factor, but as a foundation for innovation, resilience and long-term growth. In doing so, the RNE builds on the established responsibility and shaping role of economic actors. Multi-stakeholder partnerships (MSPs) provide an appropriate framework for this: they bring together business, politics, science and civil society to drive innovation, develop shared standards and translate sustainable solutions into practice. Companies benefit from new forms of cooperation as well as access to diverse perspectives and expertise.
Beyond the main focus area, the new work programme also highlights the importance of cooperation and networking. The RNE aims to contribute its expertise to the development of new international partnerships and cooperation mechanisms and to further strengthen dialogue between different societal actors. As a multi-stakeholder body, it emphasises the added value of diverse perspectives in making trade-offs visible and supporting sustainable decision-making.
