In April 2019 the United Nations hosted an Expert Group Meeting on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 17 at their headquarters in New York City. SDG 17 aims to strengthen global partnerships in order to successfully implement the Agenda 2030. The meeting, entitled “Harnessing Means of Implementation (MOIs) through Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships to Build Inclusive and Equitable Societies”, was organised by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA).

Invited experts familiar with multi-stakeholder partnership (MSP) came from a multitude of sectors, including academia, civil society, the private sector and international organisations. The Expert Group Meeting dealt with topics such as the inter-linkages between individual SDGs, effectiveness of MSPs and how effectiveness of an MSP can be measured. The manner in which cooperation in partnerships, and knowledge exchange can be promoted was also discussed. The half-day meeting was in preparation for the High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) that is set to take place in July 2019.
