MSP in practice

The Ethical Trading Initiative pursues a vision of a world of work that protects human rights and promotes compliance with international labor standards in global supply chains. This leading multi-stakeholder partnership has brought together numerous trade unions, non-governmental organizations and private companies. The impact report 2021-23 presents impact and lessons learned from ETI’s engagement over the past few years.

In its impact report 2021-23ETI reflects on recent successes and outlines its future activities as part of the ETI Strategy 2026. During the previous period, six new companies joined ETI as members, including major players such as Woolworths and Lidl. A member survey revealed that 73 percent rated their experience with ETI as good or very good. The high satisfaction scores among ETI members can be attributed, among others, to the introduction of so-called progression meetings. During these meetings, ETI acts as a “critical friend” for companies, providing feedback based on the ETI Progression Framework.

The ETI impact report highlights the resilience and significance of MSPs in times of multiple crisis and challenges. One such challenge is the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and the ongoing war. Through the swift and agile pooling of expert knowledge, companies received guidance on how to support workers in their supply chains, as well as refugees and displaced people seeking employment.

Additionally, the report addresses climate and gender-related initiatives. The core objective is to initiate dialogue with members, partners, and the public to raise awareness. ETI presents some good practice examples, including the Green Social Dialogue Initiative and the Gender Data Initiative.

Overall, the 2021-23 impact report provides valuable insights into the Ethical Trade Initiative’s mission to promote human rights in the world of work and to advocate for most vulnerable workers. For more information about the initiative and ways to get in touch, click here.
